Baniska Nature Reserve (141.96 ha) - a strict nature reserve in the town of Roztoka Ryterska in the commune of Rytro in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is located in the Radziejowa Range in the Beskid Sądecki, within the Poprad Landscape Park, on the northern slope of the Radziejowa Mountain (1262 m), in the area of the spring part of the Baniska stream, the Roztoka Ryterska tributary. The reserve is located at an altitude of 775-1035 m a.s.l. in the upper part of the Bańsk stream. It was created in 1922 by Adam Stadnicki, the then owner of this area. In 1955, by decision of the Minister of Forestry, he was again granted the status of a reserve. It had an area of 17.69 ha. In 1983 it was enlarged to 55.52 ha. Ordinance of the Lesser Poland Voivode of November 14, 2007, again enlarged to 141.96 ha. Roztoka Ryterska It is a forest reserve due to the main type of ecosystems. It was created to protect the well-preserved original fragment of forests with old specimens of trees. The stand age ranges from 90 - 170 years, and the oldest specimens are about 200 years old. Common beech dominates, also common fir and maple sycamore have a large share, and common spruce is scarce. Some fir specimens reach a height of 30 m and 1 m in diameter of the trunk, some sycamore trees 25 m in height and 65 cm in diameter. In the reserve there are the most important types of forest plant communities for the Carpathians, ranging from fertile Carpathian beech forest, through poor mountain beech forests, lower-fir spruce and fir forests, to upper-Carpathian spruce forests. In addition to forest communities, there are micro-habitats of non-forest rock, meadow, spring and water plant communities. Baniska Reserve - Buczyna Karpacka The area of the reserve is partly within the landslide. It is rare in the Carpathians a conspicuous valley landslide, formed in several stages. Within the upper parts of this landslide are colluvial embankments, among them a picturesque lake with an area of 40 m2. Landslide relief greatly affects the reserve's vegetation. Carpathian beech overgrows brown soils, and acidic beech bears poorer subcoliaceous soils. In the undergrowth you can find impatiens, heart-shaped comfrey, ferns - Braun and prickly, livestock, sticky sage. The higher parts of the mountains are covered by acid beech with a large share of spruce, a smaller admixture of fir and birch occurring in groups. In the poor undergrowth you can see forest reed, blueberry, alpine coltsfoot, giant almond and game almond. In the crevices of exposed sandstones, there is a prongwort, a green scabbard and a common fern. The Baniska nature reserve There are refuges in the reserve: lynx, wild boar, wolf, roe deer, deer, fox, marten and badger. A bear was also observed around the reserve. The larger capercaillie and eagle owl occur here. There are many species of reptiles and amphibians around the water reservoir. WHEN VISITING THE BANISK, WE REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE A STRUCTURE RESERVE, AND THE MOBILEING OF THIS RESERVE IS PROHIBITED!
